 One
of the most successful motivational speakers in the
world today is Anthony Robbins (left). Now what is so
extraordinary about Anthony is that he went from being
so broke that he washed his dishes in his bathtub to
being a Multi-Millionaire before his 24th Birthday.
Now I’m sure many of you have heard of Anthony
Robbins and many of you have even attended his
seminars. But what methods enabled him to climb so
quickly ?
Well, firstly
he had an extraordinary mentor, the Great Jim Rohn.
Secondly he studied NLP with Richard Bandler and John
Grinder. And thirdly he took massive ACTION ! If you
study Anthony’s life and his books, you will find
that he uses many of the principles of Greatness. But
for the sake of conciseness, we will only consider one
of these aspects in this brief article. The Uncommon
Foundation that Anthony Robbins started from.
 Let’s
begin with his mentor Jim Rohn (left). Jim Rohn is considered
by many to be the greatest motivational speaker of our
time. His web site calls him ‘America’s foremost
business philosopher’. But what really makes Jim
great is his ability to bring out the greatness in
others. His protégé’s are a virtual who’s who of
success and achievement and include people such as Les
Brown, and Tom Hopkins and of course Anthony Robbins.
Harvey Mackey
who is the author of Swim With the Sharks Without
Being Eaten Alive says that Jim Rohn is one of the
most powerful speakers he has ever seen. While Mark
Victor Hanson co-author of Chicken Soup for the
Soul calls Jim is the Chairman of Speakers !
Jim
encourages a series of basic life principles.
Principles such as discipline, consistency,
self-evaluation, saving, investing and action. The
essence of Jim’s philosophy can be summed up in the
phrase: ‘ Get more by becoming more ‘. He calls
the process of becoming more Personal Development. His
key success idea is that one attract success by
becoming a person that deserves it.
 Secondly
let’s consider Anthony’s experience with
Richard Bandler (left) and John Grinder (right ).
Richard Bandler dedicates his book ‘Time for a Change’
to three geniuses; among the people listed is
Anthony Robbins.
Richard
Bandler and John Grinder are two of the most
extraordinary individuals of our time. In the 70’s
they became fascinated with
remarkable therapists, people such as Virginia Satir
and Milton H. Erickson, M.D. They then put together a
method for finding the very thing that makes someone
great at something. They called this method Modeling.
Richard
defines Modeling as the process of observing and mapping
the successful behaviors of other people. Modeling
allows us to understand the
inner workings of someone’s mind. If someone is a
great public speaker, it allows us to understand
precisely how that person
thinks and enables us to duplicate that excellence
within ourselves.
Richard and
John used Modeling to understand the therapy
techniques (or Strategies) of Virginia Satir,
Milton Erickson and Gestalt Therapy founder Fritz
Perls.
These Strategies combined with the
exceptional Strategies of world leaders in areas such
as communication, business, law, education,
professional sports etc… eventually became NLP. To
date over a million people have been trained in NLP
worldwide.
But remember
NLP is more than just a series of strategies; it is
the very technique that allows us to understand
precisely what makes someone great and then enables us
to duplicate this greatness in ourselves. And that is
what makes NLP so uncommon.
As we think
about Anthony’s two Uncommon Foundations, Jim Rohn
and NLP. We start to realize that a large proportion
of Anthony’s success can be attributed to his
foundations.
The Great Sir
Isaac Newton once said, ‘ If have seen further it is
by standing on the shoulders of giants '. And
that is one of the key principles of Greatness. Find
an uncommon platform. Learn about it, master it and
then grow from it. I know Anthony did this and
that’s why we all admire him today.
